Pregnancy Chiropractic
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is commonly used as a gentle support for both mum and baby, and can be an important part of prenatal care. Pregnancy is a time of incredible physical and postural change as the mother's body accommodates and nurtures the growing baby.

A large percentage of women experience back discomfort or pain during pregnancy. Pre-existing, unnoticed imbalances in your spine and pelvis may become more obvious as your body changes, leading to discomfort and difficulty while performing your normal everyday activities.
Pregnancy Chiropractic considers the specific changes and issues relating to pregnancy and aims to maintain the structural alignment and balance of the pelvis, spine and surrounding structures to support the mother's comfort.

Why it is important to have a check up after the birth too?
To check pelvic alignment after the increased demands placed on the body during pregnancy & birth.
Postural changes due to feeding and carrying baby.
Mid back, shoulder & neck discomfort.
Alignment and rehabilitation of the spine, pelvis, and associated muscles and ligaments may be needed.
Our clinic is well equipped to accommodate pregnant patients:
We have pregnancy specific belly pillows to allow mothers to lay face down safely & comfortably (in picture above)
Our chiropractors are all qualified and experienced with pregnancy
Our gentle techniques are ideal during pregnancy
Techniques include Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT), Webster Technique, Activator & Cranial Technique

Your Pregnancy Chiropractor has completed a minimum 5 year university degree and further education specific to pregnancy in addition to this.

Back Pain, Spinal Discomfort and Headaches May be ‘common’ but aren’t ‘normal’
During your pregnancy, you will experience a number of changes and challenges physically, mentally and emotionally. Some of the physical changes can result in discomfort in your body and often this includes back pain, spinal discomfort, hip pain or headaches.

Some of the changes which contribute to back pain, spinal discomfort, hip pain and headache during pregnancy include...
Changes in your posture and the way you hold yourself. Your centre of gravity will rapidly shift (often seen around 30 weeks) putting increased demand on your spinal and back muscles.

Production of hormone relaxin which is known for helping the muscles, ligaments and other tissues ‘relax’ and become more pliable in preparation for labour also results in less ‘strength’ in these tissues to manage increased pressure from a growing baby inside. Your spine, pelvis and all of the supporting tissues work harder as the pregnancy progresses and are often the source of back pain during pregnancy if they are irritated. This is quite common during the second and third trimesters.Pregnancy comes with the reality that you are not only bringing life into the world, but more specifically into your family & home. This often comes with it the need to spend a lot of mental and emotional energy and can lead to stress. If this stress causes tension in the body, it may show as musculoskeletal issues including pelvic or low back pain, headaches or others.

While it is common for women to experience pregnancy back pain, it is not always something to just put up with. Musculoskeletal based Back pain during pregnancy is often an indication of something out balance of and there may be something you can do about it.

Once baby does come into the world, the demands on the mother’s body change also. With change in routine (including sleep patterns) come new postures, new stresses and new challenges.

We are here to help you and your family however we can. If chiropractic care is something you feel might help support you during and after your pregnancy, please call our practice to book an appointment, please call or email us with any questions you have... we are more than happy to share more information if you need.

Chiropractic care during and after pregnancy is gentle and results focused. All of the chiropractors at Little Mountain Chiropractic are trained and experienced in working with pregnancy and enjoy supporting mums through their journey.

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) is a gentle, holistic, chiropractic technique that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and is the main adjusting technique utilised at Little Mountain Chiropractic. SOT is an effective method of caring for body pain and dysfunction within the musculoskeletal system.

SOT looks for patterns of relationship and dysfunction in the spine and body, rather than in a single area, and allows for comprehensive assessment and correction of the pelvis, spine, cranium and organ systems. The technique is so named for the important relationship between the base of the spine, the sacrum, and the base of the skull, the occiput.
Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) chiropractors understand the mechanics and neurology of the body in an organised and practical way. SOT integrates easily and seamlessly with other chiropractic systems, so practitioners can use several different techniques and approaches simultaneously to gather large amounts of information and then correct the underlying problem using effective, gentle and specific methods.

At Little Mountain Chiropractic pelvic blocks are used to balance the pelvis and restore normal function to the musculoskeletal system. We also incorporate Activator technique, Diversified Manual Adjusting and Cranial Specific Adjusting with Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) to allow our practitioners to cater for each individual, and every stage of life.
