Write a reviewThe history of Port Broughton is revealed as you walk around this small town filled with history. Along the way you will visit some historic landmarks, such as, the site of Old Railway Station (opened 1876), the Heritage Centre (built in 1892), the fully restored 'Cottage "(built 1898), the Uniting Church (opened 1885), St Phillips Anglican Church (opened 1886) and St Margaret's Catholic church (first stone laid 1902). Then finish your walk at the Port Broughton Hotel. This hotel was built in two stages. The first was the single story section which now incorporates the front bar. The builder was Edward Wall From Wallaroo. William Wall added the double storey in 1910, Edward's son. The ornamental balcony was especially imported from England. Call in at the Visitor Information Centre, located in the Parlour Rooms of the Port Broughton Hotel to collect a "Walk Around Port Broughton" booklet. Start your leisurely walk, opposite the Visitor Information Centre, by reading the History of Port Broughton at the Heritage Plaques situated on the foreshore south of the jetty. The Encounter Walking Trail starts at the jetty, going to the North Caravan Park and back along the shoreline of the bay. The trail is an easy walk of three kilometres return and should take approximately 30 minutes to an hour. Enjoy the trail and take the opportunity to walk along the golden shore, discovering dazzling water views. Come and read the interpretive signs about Port Broughton's past and present along the trail. There are five signs at present. Mundoora Arm, Station Without A Train, Buried At Sea, Did You Know?, Mini Cyclone Devastation.
