The Shannon National Park covers nearly 60,000 hectares and the entire drainage system of a river. This area is a reserve for the conservation of native plants and animals and for public recreation. ACCESS The park is between four & six hours drive south of Perth, 358 kilometres, on sealed road all the way. Take the South Western highway, turn left at Bunbury, (follow the signs to Manjimup). Half an hour 53 kilometres south of Manjimup you arrive at the abandoned mill town site of Shannon. FAUNA Towering Karri forest; gnarled Jarrah forest and looming Marri forest. The Shannon is also: wild coastal wetlands; paperbark swamps, river, sand dunes; granite monadnocks that rise above the flat lands near the coast; cliffs & more. ACTIVITIES The Shannon Dam trail (3.5km, the first 1.5km is suitable for wheelchairs); the rocks trail (5.5km); the Bibbulmun track (500km) golf; boating (canoeing, sailing & windsurfing); fishing (freshwater, sea fishing); horse riding. CAMPING Signs show where camping is permitted. Camp fees are collected by way of a self-registration system. Information about how this system works can be found on site. $8 - 1 to 2 persons per night $3 - for each additional adult per night $1 - for each school age child under 16 years of age per night $5 - extra for hut accommodation use FACILITES Level campsites catering for tents, vehicle based camping, buses & caravans. Sites for generator use & an area where generators are not permitted. Upgraded car park & hut accommodation parking areas. Improved vehicle access. New picnic & barbecue facilities. Upgraded walk access to ablution area. Improved camp ground - firewood provision. Potbelly stoves & skylights in the huts.
