Grain was transported by rail wagons to ship loading facilities constructed on the jetty. Eight adjacent cells were demolished in 1992. Since 1980, when the jetty became unserviceable, grain loading operations have been carried out at the "breakwater" berth. A number of food and variety shops have been established in the Silo Markets across from the silos.
