Louisa's Walk is a piece of strolling theatre that takes you on a journey into the life of Louisa Regan, an Irish convict, sent to Van Diemen's Land on a seven year sentence, in 1841, for stealing a loaf of bread. You walk with the actors, Judith and Chris Cornish, in full costume, as they tell Louisa's story that starts in the gardens of Cascade Brewery, in South Hobart, along the Hobart Rivulet the early source of the city's water, to the Female Factory, where Louisa was imprisoned. Louisa's Walk tells her moving story within the Factory's bleak walls. There's plenty of food for thought, but Louisa's Walk ends on a much happier note, as you learn of her life after the Factory, her marriage and connection to the historic Cascade Brewery. The Walk ends in the beautiful Cascade Gardens. The story gives you an intimate insight into the life of the men and women banished to the end of the world to serve out their time and how they dealt with life in the early colony. The characters in Louisa's Walk are all played by Judith and Chris, both trained actors, with Judith playing Louisa throughout and Chris all the linking parts, including William Louisa's husband, the Magistrate, his Runner, Matt, and the Doctor. Louisa's Walk is a journey of 90 minutes. Umbrellas are provided to protect you from the sun or rain. When: Daily at 1415 and 1700 (October 1 to April 30) In winter by arrangement. Where: Meet at the Cascade Brewery Building, Cascade Road, South Hobart. Bookings through the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre, telephone (03) 6230 8233.
