He was buried in May 1870. the legend of Thunderbolt lives on in the Uralla and New England area. Whilst he was hunted by police for some six and a half years before being shot and killed, the people of the area regarded him as a hero. A bronze statue of thunderbolt on his horse has been erected in Uralla and a complete dramatised version of his life story can be heard by placing $1.00 in the slot at the base of the statue.
