We cater for all ages and levels of fitness, offering walks varying in duration of between 1 and 2 hours.Discover the idyllic charm of this unique river settlement in a car-free environment whilst learning about its rich history. Local historian and guide "Dangar Dave" Reynolds will share his knowledge of Dangar Island's past and present with you, including :* The island's indigenous history, including a visit to cave middens and rock carvings for the fitter groups.* The arrival on the island of Arthur Phillip in March 1788 and subsequent expeditions on the river.* The island's role in the construction of the original Hawkesbury River Rail Bridge during 1886-1889 and the lifestyle of the American engineers during that time.* The history of the Dangar family and the construction of Dangar House and its famous tower.* The war years on the island, including the Operation Little Boat debacle.* Life on Dangar after the first subdivision and contemporary life on the island.Tours can be tailor-made to suit the needs of your group, including morning tea at the lovely waterfront Island Store, a buffet lunch at the Dangar Island Bowling Club, or a seafood lunch in Brooklyn. Access to the island is by regular ferry from Brooklyn Public Wharf, or you may wish to combine your walk with a trip on Australia's last remaining Riverboat Postman.Cost is $8.00 per person (excluding ferry fare) with a minimum of 6 persons.
