I work with managers who want to lead their team to succeed and from time to time feel tired and isolated. I help them by upgrading their skills in seeking and getting support without feeling guilty and creating team collaboration. Empathy is a skill and can be measured. the same areas of the brain light up when we are experiencing pain as when others are hurt or experiencing physical or emotional pain. Why some of us choose not to communicate empathically is a more complex and can be attributed to life experience and environment. We do not need to know why something triggers us or upsets us we only need to learn how to tell someone else that a particular sentence or tone has had an effect and then follow up with what we would like to see happen. This is all it takes to foster trust and cooperation in teams and with families.
