In 2001 David and Terri, his Australian wife, made the decision to move to Australia. He advertised his Waterford business for sale in the UK journal Optician by asking the question Have a thirsty ambition or think things are greener on the other side of the Irish Sea?! This question, superimposed over a photo of a giant glass of Guinness, generated 23 letters of interest, showing that opticians everywhere will go anywhere for a decent beer! Business sold and he moved to Perth with his young family
