Write a reviewThe Journal is a venue made up of the Cafe and the Canteen in Melbourne, Australia Given that we are located in the same building as the CAE and the City Library, we attract a diverse bunch of people who come here to create, read, discuss, catch up and simply just chill out over a glass of wine and some antipasto. The Cafe is a place to have a great coffee and something to simple, yet delicious to eat whilst the Canteen offers simple Italian style food, cooked the way the nona's would cook it in the village Con Christopoulos and John Vakalis opened the Journal in 2004. In 2007 they opened the canteen, upstairs from Journal with Rosa Mitchell as Head chef cooking home style Italian cuisine. Since then Oscar Rigo has taken over the reigns and taken the canteen to a new level of dining. Canteen offers a simple Italian style cooking with blackboard specials. Both Journal and Canteen have been design by Rabindra Naidoo. great coffee, Romcaffe, blackboard menu, Johnny Vakalis, Ian Curley
